The Foundation
Steve grew up on his family farm which was the foundation of his strong work ethic. Losing both parents early in life, he began working at the age of 15 with his brother opening their own auction house. A few years later, they decided to turn the business into an appliance store after they were approached by local distributors.
The store has been serving Smyrna, Tenn. and surrounding areas for more than 45 years.
“I love what I do. I enjoy coming to work every day and helping people find the perfect appliance for their lifestyle,” Steve said. “People appreciate customer service and I believe that taking care of the customer is number 1.”
As the only independent dealer in his county, Steve says he has an advantage over big box stores. He is able to guarantee excellent customer service, quality products and knowledgeable associates.
Speed Queen Love
Steve Johns Appliance only sells Speed Queen washers and dryers, no other brand. They have more than 80 pieces of Speed Queen equipment on display. “I’m a strong believer in Speed Queen. Their machines are reliable, offer the best clean and are the only American-made washer and dryer in the U.S.A. They stand behind their products.”
Every Speed Queen washer and dryer that comes into Steve’s store is uncrated, plugged in and tested. He believes in showing the customer the ease of the machine and educating them on it before taking it home. “Would you buy a car without test driving it? Of course not. I don’t expect my customers to make an investment in an appliance without testing it out either,” Steve said.
Many people enter Steve’s store because they hate their current washer and dryer. They bought machines based on price and aesthetics and now they are looking for something more reliable.
“People stop me all the time in the grocery store or stop back in the store after their purchase to tell me how much they love their Speed Queen washer and dryer.” Steve said. “I have a Speed Queen washer and dryer in my house and I bought a set for all three of my daughters. Why would I sell something I can’t stand behind?”
Commitment to Quality
Steve believes that Speed Queen’s warranty speaks for the quality of the product in itself. “I tell customers all the time, do you think they would give you that good of a warranty if they didn’t believe in the dependability of their product?”
Not only does Steve Johns Appliance sell appliances, they also sell parts. Steve gets calls to replace small parts for Speed Queen Machines that are 25, 30 and 40 years old. “People buy Speed Queen because they want a product that will last and provide the best clean. People are tired of buying machines that only last 2, 3 or 4 years. I tell customers to take their clothes to a local laundromat and run a load through a Speed Queen. The same machines in that laundromat are the same Speed Queen machines you can purchase for your home.”
